    Hey Achilles……

I don’t have a tutorial for Milkshape. I learned using Maya and tutorial videos off of digitaltutors.com. Using the same basic techniques I’ve transfered that to utilizing Milkshapes Texture Coordinate Editor when working on ships within Milkshape.

I wish I could sum it up in words about how to do it… but thats pretty impossible. I think your best chances of learning is to find videos like these across the net and apply them to how they fit your application best.

    Hope this helps…

Yes, that is your main port, also, you need to let 2300 pass through.

Just ZIP the folder using WinZip or WinRAR and then rename the extension to .zip or .zip.flmod.

You should only have the SUR exporter if your a good model maker, as it requires a fair bit of skill to get a working SUR with it, plus v1.2 doesn’t work, v1.1 is the one I use to create my SURs.

Stick to resizing a vanilla SUR with FlModelTool as it’s the only thing most people should be using, especially considering that most of the models we have are useless when it comes to making a custom SUR for them.

That uv map was for the gladiator so I’d hope it didn’t fit the defender as that would confuse me even more
I should be alright now as someones given me a basic outlay of the way it works. I’m just a complete noob at this but I’ll get my head round it!
    Thanks for the replies

the first thing to do is to make sure that the base is added to the universe.ini.

FLE tends to leave you to do this manually.

Also when adding the base to the unioverse.ini make sure that the strid_name ids number matches the base ids_name number.

Then you will also need to add the base to the infocardmap.ini which ensures that all info on the base appears correctly 😄

SURs do not hold things such as normals, faces, etc. They’re strictly there to act as collision detection. The SURs are also noticeably simpler in their mesh than CMPs are, otherwise collision detection would take far too many CPU cycles to process (At least, back when Freelancer was released).

SURs and CMPs are two completely different formats, as far as I know. They probably have similarities, since they carry similar information, but I’m not versed enough into either formats to provide a better explanation.

As for the last question, that’s a definite no. CMPs without SURs have no collision detection, will often disappear once their center gets out of the field of view (effectively making the whole model pop in or out), and you’ll have a hard time selecting those meshes because the game also uses SURs to define where is a mesh selectable.

I’ve changed a few more parameters and made a successful test by uploading Tekagi’s Treasures. The .flmod format should now be allowed, so does the .exe format. The uploading should now allow mods and downloads up to 500 mb in size. (Keep on verifying if this is actually the case)

Oh, in case this hasn’t been mention before, FL Spew is NOT updated if the FL client crashes. That file is saved when the program exits gracefully only so you won’t get any error at all for the problem you are having.

**HEHE, yes, the limit is $9,999,999 in a standard FL server and client. You do have to hack the exe and DLLs to get the max limit which is 2.1 billion. I believe the Freelimits project has the files available with the money limit increased.

Thanks FF for the compliment ;)**

Hmmm, but the fact of it can easily make Freelancer more lively, makeing world change sides, but I was thinking of a server with a limited amount of players anyway, just a small amount of friends on a server. But the fact still is cool ;D.

Do you run your server on the same machine as you play freelancer/run fraps? If not then it really shouldn’t lag when you record as the work is being don on he client side.

Small things that can be done to reduce lag in fraps…

Record to a different hard drive than the one windows is on (physical drive, not just drive partition)

You should also reduce the resolution and frames per second in the recording to minimise lag when recording.

If you have a dual core processor, you can try assigning fraps to another core.

Finally, from control panel, open “System” -> “Advanced” -> “Performance” “Settings” -> “Advanced” (again) and select the radio button “Background Services” and press “OK”.

That should help with the resource allocation for fraps 😉

You should also try this tutorial, it will improve your general system performance which will also help 😉
