Have talked directly to xfb4it (via IM) and she will redirect my e-mail to a other staff member who is responsible for hosting patches @ http://www.xfire.com (Yeah I know that ya can connect via xfire to the servers but many newbies dont know, I got whispered then and then how I was able to play at a server)

Wonder if it'd be easy for MS to add FL to Steam's online shop?

I imagine, at a couple of quid, it'd be possible for it to draw in a new crowd of players? Anyone know any contacts?

I can email a few Serbian and Croatian PC magazines (I send them enough emails anyway, they practically know me lol ), I was actually planning to do a similar thing recently.

If we could all put our efforts together, with this community from all over the world, we have the means to start a Freelancer revolution!

Adding FL to steam would see the end of "us"..
Just look at how modifiable other added titles have become since
being integrated... that's a huge 0.. Steam rewites the code to be compliant with.. er.. steam.. & nothing else.. a few games have survived this.. but there SP titles only, MP must comply with the VAC

All the above is good.. just do yeselfs a BIG favor and stay away from myspace gaming forums.. I was roasted by a admin there for trying to revive/start a FL movement.. they were quite rude about it actually..

To be honest.. (in AUS) if it wasn't for that fateful day i had some Xmas $$ and requested a trip to EB to spend it.. I would have never found FL as that's the only copy I've ever seen on the shelves.. that was 7 years ago.. I get treated like some silly hippy retro freak if i even mention it to store owner/managers.. even from my friends.

That said.. there is still a glimmer of light in the fact our only real PC game mag down here does a mod section.. & FL has appeared at least every 16 months or so.. so obviously.. were doing something right..

What are you talking about? Nearly any moddable game that's been added to steam is still just as moddable, with the exceptions perhaps being some more complex mods for some other games, games don't loose their moddability

Huh???
OH,, In the older games like Freelancer your only talking about the Valve Games Aren't You..

I hear the Non-Valve older titles are quite "Eunuched" and "Sterilized" in the MOD area to fit into Steam.

Actually, games put into Steam often amount to the whole content getting dumped into the steamapps folder, no other change made.

Gentlemen, way too soon to debate at any matter.

I hope that "IF" they add Freelancer they not limit it to only official publisher files. And "IF" they allow community MOD's they are not forced to meet a standard for approval. Because "IF" that is a case it rubs a lot of MOD makers the wrong way. But,, I seriously doubt that is a lot of "IF" we will have to worry about.. Very Long Odds they will accept a title with a Original Release Date of March 4, 2003 into the Steam Catalog.

Yes I know I'm reviving quite an old thread, just wondering what actually happened with any of this and if anything took a step forward? And if anything is still being done for this or if you guys are going to try again once the new engine is released?

Things seem fairly active around here, but I'm beginning to get the feeling that I came to Freelancer/Starport a bit too late. I checked Steam and GOG to no avail.

When I first started it up, I was pretty shocked at how modern it played. I guess great UI doesn't age much. I don't know why this wouldn't have a place as a digital download somewhere, along with a corresponding revival. With Steam's recent support for modding Skyrim, one would think Freelancer could fit in with that model.

Anyway, pardon a noob and his ignorance. I'll get back to familiarizing myself with the game so I can try my hand at multiplayer without shaming myself.
