Before anything.. you need to ask yourself a very important question.

"what do i want to do"

It's all to easy to get lost in Freelancer modding as just about everything can be altered.. if you don't ground your imagination 1st it may just overwhelm you a month down the road.

Start small.. real small.. make simple changes to things you can see, hear, learn what one code block does and why.. many things in Freelancer make use of "spread out" blocks of code, sometimes reusing a block for another section multiple times.

Each .ini is a world unto itself, but can (and often is) referenced by other .ini's it's all about learning what alters what at first.

Lucky for you, there's a tutorial of just about everything, and if your stuck or no tutorial exists for your vision.. ask about, many here are seasoned veterans, and many will help you along your way of understanding.. just don't ask folks to "do things for you".. it's a classic frustration mistake, and never goes down well (time.. has proven that one).

When your suitably advanced, and have reached the limit, or found one that's blocking your idea.. there's some "advanced" addons/plugins floating around that smash the rules we had to live by for many years.. but wait a bit before you dive into the church of Adoxa's splendorous plugins, or you wont fully understand "why" they exist, or how to make full use of them in your vision.

Good luck.

The best advice for online play i can offer is...

Never be afraid to go full pirate.

But know the rules on server piracy 1st.. just don't discount a "way of life" because the game has you running around as trent.. saving the galaxy and all that.. we all try to be the good guy when we hit MP.. most times that ends with a repair bill from the 1st *non savory* player you'll meet.. prepare for that.. hehe, start marking the kills on your starflier from the moment you leave Liberty.. scan everything, loot lest ye be looted 1st.. hardi har har...

That's the precious thing about Freelancer, you kinda CAN be what you want.. what you wanted.. in MP .. within server rules of course... so read them, and then read them again.. many of the servers left are pretty strict on their rules

Just go out there.. and enjoy.

How is this for Freelancer...

Untill you relase it for all of us... it's.. just for SW

shove it, im sick of waitng for this, being teased for years now... enough. i dont vare about that mod.. i dont mod that mod, i mod freelancer.. and this, untill you give it up.. is just for you

F'ckn quit it, i was exited at first... many moons ago, now most of us feel teased, depresed and overly jaded by this "thing" you have that you wont share.

my short reply, dont care anymore.. shove it

Not a GB.. we have Anna's for that.. but a cruiser... yes.. yes indeed, if your gonna wrangle with textures, could ye make her slightly uniform so they fit together in a fleet? (them blue versions)

Just and idea matey, love ye work

Some folks need to get their head out of the early 2000's...

With recent additions to freelancer like Adoxa's roll plugin this isn't as far from do-able as we used to think.

Just takes some key/joystick planning, thought.. and oh.. i dunno.. a will to do something out of the box your all crammed into.

It.. lol.. does however.. suck, the response will never be fast enough to handle anything over a lvl10 enemy, Im a pretty kickass pilot (been playing this from the 1st year) and i can use a joystick too (old school.. hehe) but given the option.. you'll go back to a mouse.

It's 2012 folks.. enough with the jaded reply's about "we cant do that.. you want another game" have many of you loaded up with them tasty "extras" we've been so deliciously delivered the past two years... in essence.. Freelancer isnt the same as it was 4 years ago.. stuff like this is possible now.

Having recently spent a ton of time in a MMO (not WoW. lol.. LOTRO) the past year i can see this (instancing) being a good idea.. but only as long as there is ample space in between to "get lost in" .. as that's the real magic of any *big* game.

I think Roberts is getting a bit ahead of himself with his predicted numbers though.. But then again.. he may have sights set firmly on competing against EVE & TOR.. and in that case were not getting a space sim.. but another MMO.

Im 100% fine with that.. MMO's are the future of multiplayer.. it's greed and badly designed pay for extra's that ruin the fun in MMO's.. if they keep a tight hold on that (no flying freakin pink dragons that shoot panda's.. or somethin) they could do really well, in both the game, and the extra's .. imagine being able to *buy* a new paint job? (best system is earning cred ingame honestly) keep it cosmetic and not anything that gives any advantage and folks will sill buy it (for bling!) and nobody's hurt on the "pay to win" ethos..

This.. could work.. for us and them.

Force freelancer to use Dx9 "conversion" (it's not really dx9.. but it will step down dx)

http://www.4shared.com/zip/w4-CMY5K/ENB-4-FL.html

it's been a long while since i packed this and uploaded it.. i think i left instructions, if not leme know, it's easy to install and remove.. i have seen this fix the problem by forcing the ENB but having the ENB set to off in the main .ini

i know that makes little sense.. lol and to be honest im not sure how it fixes the integrated problem like it does.. but i found this out trying to get my mod running on a friends laptop, and i've heard it works for other chipsets.

Aww man....

Grabs some fresh popcorn, "no no.. in here, i wanna see.. been a while since the last public lynching" all round family fun.

sry.. couldn't help myself, i saw this a mile away.. but never expected.. that guy^

Lesson 1.

Never steal from anyone..

Lesson 2.

Especially not SWAT...

Lesson 3.

Don't copy disco... as it'll get you the same results as lessons 1 & 2

Lesson 4. (major finals)

Having learnt lessons 1-3, go grab a fresh JFLP or similar base mod.. and try again.

End lesson.

.obj is perfect

just send a link to my PM box here, easiest way really if your having problems with your modeling pipeline (getting a ship from mesh to game) i may be able to help a bit.

Don't be discouraged, there's plenty of great mods being made outside of Disco.

Problem is many of us are too busy in our mods making things and not much shouting about what were making... if that makes sense lol

Im gonna be a bad man here and just ask one Question..

Why? Disco i mean.. not a mod, but another Disco mod

is that the preferred template these days.. i just don't get it, im not trolling either.. it's just every.. well almost every mod i see lately is a Disco mod, i fail to understand (honestly)

Good luck though.

that moors.dll is your best best robo..

anything else is a mountian of work in comparison, that addon will gain you extra functionality and solve your undocking problem.

You simply assign a dockpoint to be the moor in the base .ini
Then you tell the big ships to use moors when docking.

Tweak to taste,

Problem solved.. and im pretty sure it'll work with FLAC or anything really like most of Adoxa's extra's
