The fact the game is open source and managed by the community rather than Microsoft also makes it a rather different beast.

If we ever got OpenFL or something, we could probably do a similar thing.

Oh man, I feel bad for you guys... Maybe we could also add a subdomain to Starport aliasing the workaround URL as further backup.

I like the idea of mirrors, don't know if w0d has the time to work on that though.

That's not how that works. We don't have Freelancer's source code, and please don't ask about if we can get it. We've tried everything under the sun, Microsoft won't open source the game.

No. You'd need to emulate x86 on the Pi's ARM core, which is something difficult for a proper computer, let alone a severely underpowered one like the Pi.

Freelancer is best hosted on Windows. The bottleneck we generally see comes from the single-threaded nature of the game rather than any networking issue. You can do it on regular x86 Linux if you want, but it's just more trouble than it's worth, I find.

Typically with Freelancer the things either had a use that was removed or were going to be used, but never made it in. Either way, sounds like it's safe to ignore/remove outright.

"View" permissions are basically access permissions in Drive parlance. Just make sure anyone with the link can view and you'll be able to download it fine.

Since you removed your link, I can't actually check with yours, but when I try to open a Drive link, it just pops in Chrome with the exact same UI as on my desktop. If I try to open a file in the Drive app (say, a .7z archive), it downloads the file and opens it in whatever app you have associated with file management (I have Solid Explorer), which will then allow you to extract/copy/save it as desired.

I'm not seeing any kind of grand conspiracy here, just misunderstanding the UI.

Google Drive hasn't changed in years. The download option is there, you guys just need to stop being blind. Top right corner, there's a big fat icon with an arrow pointing down that says "DOWNLOAD" when you hover over it.

I'm assuming the reader has a 1024 characters read buffer for the whole line, which frankly is more than enough for normal usage. You shouldn't be storing that much text data directly in the INIs.

If you're fine with alpha testing, instancing would exactly fit this particular scenario and eliminate virtually all CPU load.

Please try to avoid double (or triple, quadruple, etc.) posting. You can edit your last post to add information there instead.

As I've already told you: upload them elsewhere, the download area isn't functional enough to be worth it.

The bigger picture is that you're freaking out over a 1.5k poly bridge when the typical scene budget for a game these days is over 1M polygons. An entire FL scene is less than a modern character.

It's basically utterly irrelevant to do any optimization on these.

Oh, and it wouldn't surprise me if FL used per-vertex lighting for some things, in which case having denser geometry actually increases lighting quality. The more you know, eh?

Heavily recommend not turning the SecuROM driver back on. It was disabled for a reason: it's a gaping security hole that hasn't been patched in years.

Use the no-CD instead, it's a safer, easier way of doing it.
