Hello community,

I'm asking some help because I was a player of Freelancer a long time ago and I would like to play it again. When I was a boy, I played to this game in the vanilla version. Today, Freelancer seems to me very huge! Whoua... a lot of mods! It looks like Morrowind

Could you help me to find my way, please? What mods would you advise a player like me?

Thanks for your help. Really, it would be appreciated

That highly depends on what you are looking for.
Many different mods with different styles.

best is if you take a look at https://www.moddb.com/games/freelancer/mods and see if anything fits to what you are looking for.

Welcome back!

I'd recommend installing Freelancer HD Edition and going from there. In terms of mods, there's not a lot of amazing ones that add a good amount of depth, lore and so on. Discovery is probably the best of them, however it makes a lot of its own lore as it is set after the base game. That's likely your best mod to look into after you've played the main storyline again.

There's not really any other mods that expand well into story, graphics and new systems. Most are just too much eye candy and mismatched features/models/textures, such as random Star Wars ships or added systems with no real need for them to be there.

There are lots of mods that expand the game with plenty of decent content. Discovery is only good if you like roleplay, which isn't everyone's glass of sidewinder fang. I'd also go down the MODDB route as there's plenty on there that might pique your interest

Do you have some examples of such mods for single player? Besides Discovery and Crossfire (ew), I've not seen many that extend SP to a deep degree, or add ship models that appear quite fitting. I remember a lot of cross-over ships from other franchises and some systems mods here and there that never really added much.

1. Since when does Discovery extend SP? I might not be up to date but to my knowledge that's not really a key feature of the mod.
2. For people wanting to play SP there are plenty of mods at moddb which despite the changes and additions still allow to play the vanilla storyline. To my knowledge there are three mods extending the FL storyline. Crossfire, Nomad Legacy and another which name I currently don't remember but know that it can be found at moddb.
3. You might not like certain other mods (for whatever reasons) but generally your personal opinion might not be the deciding factor for other players out there. Is it such a terrible idea to point players into the direction where they can find all the mods and make their OWN decision about what they like to play?

Really...
