Freelancer Support

Suggestions:

1. DO NOT install Freelancer in “Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Games/Freelancer” but anywhere else.

2. Delete all save-games-files in your “my documents/my games/freelancer/Accts/SP” Folder. INCLUDING “restart.fl” !

3. Activate “DirectPlay” in your System-Settings (Windows-Legacy-Components)

4.Always run Freelancer with Administrator-Privileges

5. Check your AV-Settings for alerts or actions regarding Freelancer.exe and such…

6. Only if your Freelancer-Copy is the version that needs the CD in your optical drive: Replace the original Freelancer.exe with the NO-CD version (downloadable here on TSP).

If it’s offline it could be [c]gameux.dll[/c] (in [c]%windir%\System32[/c] or [c]SysWOW64[/c]) stuck waiting - I’ve renamed it to avoid that problem. Otherwise, idk.

I was using a character that had a neutral rep. So, they all looked neutral to me.

Used a different character and it works as advertised.

Don’t know if you are still trying or have found a solution but I was having similar problems. I found out that I had to open windows firewall and use the Advanced settings to enter an exception for the server using the actual port numbers and not just the FLserver.exe. you can google it to find the process.

For anyone who could not get a similar fix to work, or who tried the widescreen fix or the config databases to no sucess, I found that putting the files from the ENB dx8-9 converter into the EXE folder allowed me to launch the game in Win 7. It seems like the DX8 dll did not install in the first place so the game would never get past the fatal error.

Generally for me it’s install game, then 1.1, then JFLP, then I add in the various little file fixes cos I’m never sure which ones are included in JFLP. You know the zlib, mp3codec, no-cd etc.

J.R, ticking the box and selecting to bypass this screen would prevent it from appearing next time, it’s part of the first run. So if it’s bypassed it writes to the registry that it is not the first run and doesn’t show this screen.

As for the username/password. I have never personally seen that screen but the only thought I have is that the game installation wants to connect to a server with a password and that the password is incorrect.

Like I said there is no reason for it to prompt you for anything, the game has no use of usernames/passwords.

Have you configured your router? You still need to open the ports up on that as well, LAN or not

I managed to get it to work but I couldn’t get the file you linked to working. I tried the older JFLP file and now seem to have a working Version 1.0. Thanks so much for your help with this!

This might be an old thread, but makes a good point.

Some “Fan Hushing” software “Cool and Quiet” was notorious, didn’t have the right specs for some 6 core processors. Caused overheats, etc. I won’t dare suggest software of this nature either! I remember a rule of thumb that was going around was CPU specs vs bios readings vs fan specs vs fan software specs and motherboard specs = Be safe, live with the noise.

Reply to Bryan about editing savegames from Discovery.

It’s easier to just move the save game file from you’re Multiplayer directory to the Single Player directory in the case of Ironcross’s save editor since it can use all of Discovery’s hash codes if you take them from the Ironcross directory of the mod and copy them to the same directory in the editor.

Otherwise in the case of text edit types of save editors it’s all in hash code anyway and in at least the 485 build those are in that Ironcross directory for you. But those should access the file anywhere, but the GUI Ironcross editor won’t access the Multiplayer directory just the save game files in the Single player directory. Hence the move. Once edited, move them back. Simple.

Sorted it in the end. Got fed up trying to configure a prehistoric router and bought a new one. Problem solved. The exe hack Adoxa suggested works nicely as well so thumbs up for that, also means i don’t have to mess around doing the regedit hack as well. Appreciate the assistance Adoxa.

Thanks for the suggestions. It appears the CD drive is likely the problem. Strangely it doesn’t seem to have any drivers. Found the disc that came with it and even went to the website and there are no drivers, only utility softwares like Nero & ASUS E-Green. Firmware is up to date. But I did install the Nero disc speed checker and discovered the drive is only operating at about 8x speed, and it’s a 48x drive. Time to get a new drive it looks. I shouldn’t be surprised I guess, it is about a 5 year old drive (so is the rest of my pc, yikes!), it has served me well haha.

Didn’t know about Alt-Enter, I just installed stuff blindly based on recommendations, thanks! I will try and see if it fixes the issue.

Btw the issue happens mostly during the beginning of single player, when the game moves on it happens less
