Freelancer on a Linux server?

I'm running a headless (no display, all administration is done via ssh) Linux server, and I'd like to run a Freelancer server. Has anyone gotten that to work? Or would I have to do something funky like configuring a Windows VM to run flserver.exe at startup and have VirtualBox (or another vm) run that without a display?

So as a bit of an update, I have Windows XP running in a Virtualbox. After installing the update and the VirtualBox drivers, it starts and gets to the menu, but the mouse is extremely jerky. What can I do about this? Has anyone else had any remotely similar issues?

Here is what I mean.

Cant see the vid you linked to (its flash, I dont do flash)...so I cant really tell how your bringing up the servers display.
You have a few options for doing it:
If your just using X forwarding through ssh, thats not going to be too smooth, its alot of bandwidth. I generally prefer to use Xpra for X forwarding, its better compression and you'll get smoother response, it also allows for disconnecting without actually killing your forwarded windows (its basically the X version of the console app screen).
Can also run the VM headless mode and use RDP.
Which ever method you use, there should be options for not constantly updating the cursor (ie: instead of constantly tracking mouse movements, only updating positions on clicking)
Keeping the desktop resolution of the VM to a minimum will help bigtime, as will removing any artifacts on the VM screen that constantly update (animated systemtray icons like cpu monitors etc)

You need to disable mouse integration in VirtualBox for the pointer to work correctly in Freelancer.
