Huhu,

here I am introducing FLDS - A program that reads your freelancer files and generate a navmap from these. The first start will take ~1 minute because of the file-reading process, the next starts are much faster (few seconds). It works with modifications, if prog dont want to read again the FL-data delete datastorm.fl in the save games folder.

But I want to mention that exploring is an important thing in freelancer, maybe if you are new to a modification, you should give it a try or visit the systems you scanned with FLDS - I sometimes check systems/added things but I visit the bases and systems by myself to see it by myself (and with nice effects which are sometimes awesome °_°)
So decide yourself if you want to spoil the game out.

However, enough *blabla*, here is the download page:
http://ds.fa-matz.de/

(I am also going to upload an installed version because some people have problems to install it- But first I want clear permission from WP Hellfire (autor))

DS is old and outdated
Hellfire left FL some time ago and there were no updates since.... dunno ... about 4 years

Been using this for ages allready.
Most mod devs don't like it, and i believe FLMM even has an option to disable or scramble the DS database creation process.
Using this prog makes "surprises" in a mod unuseble as you can see where everything is relative easy.

And what is the alternative?

For me it belongs in the category "Old, but good stuff"

(Remember...How many years it is ago that FLMM got updated?)

the best alternative is "exploration" and "playing the game"

Luckily enough, it's not too buggy (it sometimes has problems with virtual memory that is too big or something like that).. and works.. and yeah, the only other alternative that I know of would be freelancer explorer, which is made primarily for modding though.

FL Companion is also good and gives trade routes that are easy to read.

FLDS scrambles the font sizes on my machines, making it difficult to read.

BOTH are spoilers.

Go play the game, newb!

Dont need this "tool" rearing its ugly head again. >

Makes mod making with surprises and easter eggs a waste of time and is a fully functional "walkthrough for players"

in the end we should ask one question... "is it good supporting such a tool in FLs current situation"

we should be interested that the players spent time playing the game instead getting bored because they used tools to explore everything

The player can decide by himself if he want to use it - or not!

And I even - If I had scanned a mod - visit the system because some have very nice graphics, I mainly use FLDS to check things which I knew but I forgot through time

Meh, FLDS stopped working for me ages ago, and I find it too messy anyways... My walkthrough is the files

It's a good tool, nice if you wanna use it. I used to use it loads

I think that everybody has to decide for him or herself whether they want to use tools like FLDS or not.

In some mods, especially those that are not complete yet, you can fly around aimlessly through undocumented systems in the hope to find rewards for your will to explore... just to find... nothing. If the game crashes 3x in the meantime and you have to restart 2 systems away then you might get frustrated and never touch the mod again. There FLDS is a blessing; you can see where there is something to see.
In other mods you miss some nice things because you take the direct route. Well, you spoiled it for yourself, tough luck.

In theory, you aren't wandering aimlessly in an incomplete mod; you beta test it... Otherwise you aren't proving very useful for the mod makers.
