Hello everyone, I'm new here on the forums.. I have a problem with creating my own ship I made before a year ago. The subject is about making Freelancer ship, I've tried the tutorial but I still can't understand some of the things.. I exported cmp as it said I should and I didn't got any hardpoints.. but some kind of mesh info and such things.. Please help me, I'm kinda lost there. :/

Hi, welcome to the starport community.

Which tutorial are you following?

The usual problem is that you need to name the hardpoints correctly, and they should be at the bottom of the groups list, after all the ship parts, before you export the .cmp file.

Can you zip up the .ms3d file and attach it so we can see it? You need to zip it to be able to attach it to your post. If you can also put the .cmp file in the same zip it would be better - you can just drag it and drop it on the first zip if they are in the same folder.

Thanks.. and I'm following Drizzt4.0s ship creating tutorial version 1.5
I've made everything he did but except for the ship part I made from before and from 3ds max converted to 3ds and imported in milkshape. I'm now redoing the project by taking a look at other original freelancer ships, like starflier.. I will try to finish this method, if that doesn't work, I'll put the .ms3d file and attach it.. :3

in my opinion the easiest way of adding hardpoints is using the tool hardcmp after you exported the model as cmp file. Give it a try

Yes I used hardCMP because when I put them in in Milkshape the exporter didn't usually align the hardpoint correctly. But now there are other exporters.

Will try hardCMP, thanks! :3
I made the ship and imported it in the game and it works perfectly, the tutorial did help me, but I did a little mistake while exporting (Never going to put level of detail higher lol). As for hardpoints, they're little bit misaligned, like 1 engine is a little bit far away from the position where it must be.. but I hope hardCMP fixes that.. Thanks again :3

Oh btw... The ship can only have one shield or I can put double shields? And I can only have 4 contrail hardpoints maximum?

One more question.. How can I manage to add damage to wings? I mean like, when engines and wings get destroyed they get replaced with damaged ones

P.S: Sorry for double post

HardCMP will show you more clearly the placement and direction of the hardpoints, so you can move them more precisely into the position you want.

Version 23 has direction boxes and arrows to help you better, but it doesn't work on my old laptop, so I use v18 which doesn't show the direction arrows.

You can have several shield mounts, I have used up to 5 on my big ships, placing them 150 metres apart to cover the length/width of the ship. I used 150 metre shield bubbles. You can also design larger shield bubbles for them instead and maybe use 2-3.

I don't know if there would be any problems using more shields on a large ship, or the max number, but I didn't have any troubles with them.

I can't help you with the damage stubs, I never used them.

But someone else will be able to help with that.
