A maybe crazy thing:

After heavy effec tweaks with the current test version
I asked myself, what4 we need effects at the server
and commented out all
;--- munition_hit_effect =
;--- const_effect =
;--- effect =
in weapon_equip.ini at the server.

My impression since than is, that the performance improved
and the server collects less lag after running a few hours.

Maybe someone could check + comment that.

In theory..this would create way less processor cycles.. and that's good for any server progy freeing up the CPU for other tasks..

But wouldn't that leave the door open to "less" cheat detection? with nothing to refer to on the server, other than that thought.. it makes total sense to me. The server isn't drawing the explosion so no real reason to keep the data line if its not needed.. and it all still works.

Sweet find F!R

The Server does not even create a rendering context let alone a direct3d8 instance, so why would it use the alchemy effect library?

And it doestn't See my 'plugins theory' there and [Libraries] in dacomsrv.ini - the alchemy.dll is absent.

So i don't think either that this can do noticeable impact on server performance.

well.. there is this theory...

Less data lines = smaller search pattern = faster loadtime = better server...

sounds pretty straight forward, even if the server isn't looking for those lines.. it still has to parse them.. every time.. F!R's talking over the course of a few hours here not an instant boost.. and on that it makes sense.

well to me anyways.. Unfortunately at this time i can't test the theory as i only have 1 working PC..

As far as I remember the server parses this file once it starts so the only effect you should get is a slightly faster loading time on startup you probably would not notice (we are talking about less than milliseconds here).
