I'm using the final version of Win 8 x64 Enterprise for some weeks now.
I had no issues with Freelancer so far.

We’ll switch to a new server and IP soon.
The DNS “gun.fllistserver.com” will be updated so there will be no change required on your end. Due to DNS caching it could be possible that you won’t be able to see all servers for some hours (Copy & Paste from fllistserver.com)

I have some info on good authority:
The game will be a high end PC only game which will rly push current hardware to its limit. It should make FL/Wing Commander fans very happy especially if you remember what FL should have looked like before it was bought by MS. The full announcement will be in October but it will be still worth to have a look at robertsspaceindustries.com on Sept 10th (when the countdown hits 0).
