The Use of Cruise Disruptors
Anonymous-Anonymous
Without a doubt a Cruise Disruptor (CD) is the best weapon in this game.

There are 3 types Wasp, Hornet, and Nomad.

Any gun fighter will have this equipped on their ships, for the various reasons I am about to tell you. I do not use missiles, I have always been a gun fighter, so the opinions in this text are mine and not necessary any one else. I'm only telling you what I have discovered over the years of playing Freelancer.

Wasp
In my opinion the wasp is the most accurate of all, I rarely miiss with it. It is the cheapest of all the CD's in game, it is the slowest of all the CD's.

Hornet
The hornet travels faster then the wasp and IMO is less accurate then the wasp, but it will also take a bit of hull from your opponent when you fire it.

Nomad
This CD can be found on moded servers only, it's hard to describe because some moded servers change the velocity of it, but you can put it on the same level as a Hornet.

All 3 of these CD's can be used in the same way. Timing is key to using a CD. It is most effective in stopping someones turn. For instance if you are fighting a Sabre, you can make him stop on his turn, which in turn makes your opponent vulnerable. Hence giving you a second of time to fire more on you opponent. Most Sabre pilots hate CD's for this reason.

CD's also have another use, they can blow up a torp or a missile when your opponent fires one on you. Now, this TAKES practice, and setting your CD on auto isn't the right thing to do. You have to aim with it, you have to PREDICT your opponents fire of his missile. If you are really good with it, you will manage to blow up your opponent with his own missile. Again, this takes hours of practice and being able to predict your opponents timing.

Remember, setting them on auto is bad, learn to use the weapons you have in the most effective killing way. It is the essence of Freelancer, kill or be killed .

Last use for it is wrecks. Some wrecks are very close to minefields and if you shoot the wreck with your guns, it takes the loot of the wreck and blows it up. Use the CD, it works without blowing your loot up.

Due to the keyboard layout and the fact that it's hard enough firing missiles or torpedoes, I don't even bother to equip my ship with any countermeasure or disruptor too much trouble

If you have a mouse with programmable buttons it's easy to program your mouse buttons to fire auxiliary weapons such as missiles, cruise disruptors, and CMs.

Gun control is like fighting drunk driving by making it harder for sober people to buy a car...
