Hello fellow Freelancers

As you might have noticed, we experienced a prolonged downtime of the website for the most part of this week.
This was caused by a double hard disk failure on our root server. The Starport runs on a RAID1 configuration, however, since one hard disk completely failed while the other was also slowly failing, this meant that the website was getting slower and slower until it finally was barely reachable.

Fortunately, the hard disk content could mostly be rescued (except for less than 200 KB of bad block data). Meanwhile, both hard disks have been replaced and the site is running smooth again.

I'm sorry for the downtime and I'm going to take measures so that this will not happen again.

Best,
w0dk4

Glad to see you again. I was afraid Starport had hit a bump
in the FreeLancer road like many of the sites are starting to do. Can't imagine FL ever going out, but RSI will probably start taking a lot of Lancers. I won't, because it will probably be the 4th of Infinity before I can afford a new computer to play.

[Needs quad-core and 8GB with a 1GB video card.].

Anyway, it's good you're still here.

The folks over at Space Sim Central are willing to provide a backup for anything required in case of any other downtime so that nothing's ever lost.

One of our "new" hard disks is already failing so I will let our host change the hard drive some time next week. The downtime should not take longer than a day.

Another note on backups: Our site is now properly backed up, not only via RAID but also on a seperate backup space.

Nah, Hetzner just doesn't guarantee you'll get new equipment when they replace a hardware failure. We didn't get new HDDs.

Ya, but to be fair their support is pretty good and they are pretty fast at swapping hard disks.

We were offline during the last hour in which the hard disk was replaced. Seems like this time we got lucky and received a good drive
