Launched in 2004, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident was a landmark in space-based Real-Time Strategy games. Noted for its lavish visuals, and deep, tactically-focused gameplay, it is a cherished memory for all gamers who revel in the sight of mighty dreadnoughts and swarms of fighters clashing in huge fleet engagements.

Now, in 2011, the original development team is preparing to bring you the next episode in this galaxy-spanning epic. We invite you to join us on this momentous journey, as Marcus Cromwell once more takes the bridge to defend Earth from the onslaught of savage alien races, and decode the enigma of the mythical beings known only as the Creators.

Bloody hell, just goes to show what you're getting yourself into when you need 400,000 just to get the project off the ground. You'd have to turn over a hell of a lot more to make it a worthwhile investment. That tech demo seems to be from 6 years ago, they must have failed to get the funding then and unfortunately I reckon they'll fail again this time to. Hard times.

400,000 is the full budget for the game, actually. You only pay whatever amount you have decided if the game is shipped.

I thought you only paid if they reached the 400,000 target for funding, then they get your money. How are they going to do it if the money isn't up front, they'd already be working on it if that was the case wouldn't they? Or are they? Confused.com!

Might've misread it then. I thought there was some kind of thing preventing them from, say, reaching the target and just going with the money.

The site's not loading right now though so I can't be bothered to check

Well they were asking for way too much. They probably wanted to fund their entire project from start to end instead of just asking for a little something, just enough to get the project started and then search for some investors for the game later on once they've got something to show.

i don't get it. they want just money from people to start developing? Funny.

if I were them i would make a whole game's design project including tons of 3d-models, an interface composed in After Effects and a lot of rendered movies demonstrating all aspects of potential game and even its fake-gameplay. This would be 80% done game, other 20% is a game-engine.

Just sell/give your 80% to a certain company and they'll make it if they like your provided concept. Game is done.

Nobody's bothered reading how that site works eh?

You ask for money at launch and receive it upon completion. It's basically asking people for a promise to pay you. IF and only IF the game is done, they get paid. If they don't finish the game, they get nothing.
