Here is a model I recently created. Not sure if I'm finished with it just yet, as I'm not too good with textures, but let me know what you think.

It's called the Devil Ray, and my idea for it would be heavy fighter with six guns(class 8 - 10), one top rear turret, two missile launchers, plus the various other hardpoints( countermeasures, etc.)

the cockpit is bit too bridge-like. if you want it to be a fighter, make less glass sections and smoother with the rest of the shape. a good draft though.

Thanks for the input guys.

cata123,
Yep it looks like UV mapping this one will be lots of fun, ha!

Gisteron,
Do you think something like a tear-drop shaped smooth canopy would look a lot better? I can do those easy enough.

By the way, this model was built in 3DCrafter v9 from www.amabilis.com if anyone is interested in checking it out. It's a very nice and easy to use modelling program.

Gisteron,
Here is another version with a different canopy. The front section of this canopy is clear as you can see, and I can also make it appear to be glass without the transparency effect.

I agree that the smoother canopy does look a lot better than the old one.

its not that the old one looked bad, its just that if you fly a fighter (just imagine you do in real world), you want to have your field of view as large as possible. the older version made the ship look rather like a gunship or so, where you have a bridge to see where you fly, but not to see where your enemy is.
good job anyway, keep it up

Gisteron,
I wasn't totally pleased with the old cockpit look from the start, and wanted to get input from others about it. I thank you very much for your opinion and honesty.

I like your model! Of course it could be improved, but I'm not able to create anything like that myself, so I'm impressed) Thanks for recommending the tool that helped you to do this. I have never used any 3D modelling software, but I'm eager to learn
