Yes, you can even play HD edition on regular Vanilla servers, that's what it was made for. It's the best patch we currently have.

Why not use HD edition as your base patch? It includes everything, even some fixes to JFLP we've found along the way.

As above, you will need to port forward. When your friend is trying to connect your internet router doesn't know which device of yours to send the request to. It needs a port forwarding rule setting to point it to the IP address of the PC running Freelancer server.

We are well aware of the divide.

People that historically played Freelancer know or know how to find details to make the game work today. We know this is a barrier to entry.

This is why some of the mods have installers etc these days, including a project I'm involved with, Freelancer HD Edition.

There is an untapped new generation of players out there who I believe would enjoy Freelancer and give it new life. I think we have to do some modernising though before that can happen.

I think as a community we should work together to a common ground remaster and then advertise/deploy it. But concepts like that have never gone down well, community is too split between their projects for that, and there would always be debate on what should be included and what shouldn't be without a central guided direction that we can't deviate from.

We have to naturally come to agreement/compromise.

That's the real hurdle, we collectively have the knowledge and tools as a single force to completely overhaul the game to a modern standard. We just don't have a common goal, and if we did, we'd have different thoughts about achieving/implementing it.

Just to add to this.

I have beamed around every single dockable in the game with JFLP and Vanilla server.

All battleships except Myoko (Ku02_02_Base) can reproduce this issue.

It's random but happens in the following conditions:

1. When undocking and a hostile entity is attacking the battleship.
2. When undocking and making the battleship hostile to the player.

The actual CTD can be anywhere from immediate up to a few minutes, but is reproducable.

Both Luxury Liners are also affected.

PortableFL already functions independently of the main save location. It temporaringly overrides the windows environment variable that points to that location, saves are merely created and loaded from the My Documents folder internal to PortableFLs folder structure. It's one of the main reasons for it being Portable.

Thanks for the detailed info though man.

I can't use Notepad or any text editor because all I get are random symbols - until I save the file using Tinyfish Freelancer Ini Editor.

All FL ini files are encrypted/compressed by default, when you save them via that editor they are decompressed into standard readable form. As such you are likely not using any of the current patches out there as they are pretty much all decompressed.

They fix a lot of bugs too so I would recommend using one.

Just to keep you guys in the loop, I got a new job a couple of months back, unfortunately as I was effectively starting again I had to focus on that for a while, which left me drained at the end of the day. Now I am more comfortable in the role it's taking less energy, so hopefully I can put some time into this project soon.

I also have a Minecraft modpack I am working on too. Freelancer isn't going anywhere though (hopefully lol).

Keep working on it, we have faith in you, a scaleform like HUD would be fancy, gimmicky, but fancy, coupled with other mods to the HUD would make the game look reasonable in this day and age.

If you ever get this fully working WhiskasTM, I'd love to use it when I get around to working on the HUD.

Not quite sure where you are going there, as Dunning & Kruger identify individuals that misconceive their own skill level, both in the lack of, and misrecognition of. It also labels people who mis-identify the skills of others

To which do you refer, and to whom was that pointed at ^^

According to the page, it can be worked around by turning the service back on anyways, at your own risk. So this is a none issue.

I may incorporate known issue checking into Portable Freelancer, this one shouldn't be too difficult to detect.

Sigh, I hate work on logo's, fonts look so rubbish, so I went and solved the god damn issue by creating a fairly simple app that I can just adjust the CSS of and display fonts so I can screenshot them and then edit them in an image program.

I'm glad someone appreciates the effort

Working on a GUI based downloader/installer now actually. Lots of plans for this, it's just going to take time, when the proof is functional in GUI form I will open it up to everyone to contribute to. Adding in extra modules or mods will be easy and follow a format. So there should be no issues in getting stuff add to it by the community.
