General rule of thumb, if you install a mod, don't install any patches, the mod will include all that you need. You also run the risk of writing over modded files and breaking the mod.

As for enb series. Freelancer is an old dx8 game, enb can be used to apply some dx9 effects like bloom and colour correction. Most modern mods include a version of it.
