note: not sure if this is the right place, but seeing as this is intended for modders it would seem fit.

A while ago I did some work for Discovery mod but for various reasons our paths diverged and it remains unclear whether it'll be included into mod or even used. So I've decided to release a portion of that content in to public, specifically the new ships and supplemental assets for them, such as textures, effects and other miscellaneous.

Content pack includes nine new ships:

Light Fighter
Heavy Fighter/Bomber
Very Heavy Fighter
Gunship
Gunboat
Cruiser
Battleship
Artillery
Boss

Artillery and light fighter additionally have alternative versions.

All models were created from scratch to match both original designs in shapes and scale. I took some inspiration from extended intro when designign these and giving them a little more aggressive looks. Overall they were intended to visualize further evolution and provide better quality looking ships as I felt original nomad ships weren't good enough even compared to other ships in the game, both technically (poor texturing mostly) and aesthetically. Polycount is just slightly above that of vanilla models of comparable class and size, meshes are thoroughly optimized in multiple passes, however distance LODs are not provided, nor VMesh wireframes.

Additionally the pack contains a set of capital ship turrets of various designs and sizes designed for particular class.

Most are in Freelancer 3DB format as they have no separate parts, except Boss ship is CMP format as it has wing closing animation sequence. All ships have hardpoints, feature custom hitboxes, single shared material/texture library file and overall structure following vanilla contents. In addition all ships have custom engine effects which are also provided in this pack.

The pack doesn't contain INI files or snippets for actual ships and equipment, only resources, so you'll need to make your own entries for your mod.

Stunning, to say the least. I've followed your work on Disco, your work on how to create custom FX is very
intriguing. Have not had a chance to dive in to it but will soon, I may have a lot of questions for you since
there is no editor for it yet. When I was coding ales some what all I could figure out were the
colors and alpha effects. What I was interested in learning was some fx like these:

The first with some patience you can make (adjusting ale radius).
The second you can find in the release of Why487 for an engine FX.
The last you can make it like the sun in Li02.
So all 3 effects you can obtain.

MOST IMPRESSIVE !

Was looking for ages to find such beautyful nomad ships.

THANKS ALOT FOR SHARING YOUR OUTSTANDING WORK !

(Though it means a bunch of work for me to implement some of these in my next Mod-Update... )

P.S.: I already managed to get the "tentacles" to work as attached-equip...
And of course your excellent work will be credited where its due !!!

Those really good. Would like to have that as a zip. mod to add to the game.

Thanks for the share and allowing others to use your work.

On another note: Saw a link to a video by Why485 up there. I was in a game with him last week. I was telling him how I enjoyed the work he's done messing around with Freelancer. He said it was a lot of fun working with it.

It seems that I cannot get the boss working or any of the guns. Is there anyway someone can put a code a a workaround up for this ship pack.

What seem to be the problem? Boss can be a bit tricky to implement due to its sheer size but it's possible to make it work, though if you want simpler solution I would suggest to use it as a non-moveable solar object. Be sure to give it a custom scanner and turrets with far higher range. There aren't any visible fighter ships guns models, use provided invisible_gun.cmp model as it doesn't have hitbox bug. Turrets use same material library as ships do so don't forget to link it in equipment ini files too.
