If you can, find your best modeler (who has yet to figure out texturing) and have him get a hold of Digital Tutors or Gnomon DVD tutorials on the subject matter. *cough*Have them use their imagination on how to obtain them *cough*
. TBH, it really don't matter what program its for. The same principles apply. Using your different projection methods for the right situations, maximum use of the 0-1 space, ensuring consistency in regards to your UV/Texture scale, and keeping your shells together as much as you can to ease texturing. I'm only a marginal texturer/UV mapper... actually I suck, but these vids helped not only figuring out how to texture models, but to understand the principle (the rest is up to me to improve with application practice... which is rare these days). On another note, I found it easier to get ahold of texturing dvd's for Maya. Thats why I use it now.

Maya, hey?? Lucky!!
For some 3DS Max help... http://www.republicofcode.com/tutorials/3ds/texture_stealth/ http://www.cgtutorials.com/c12/Texturing/ And UVMapper Classic (http://www.uvmapper.com) has been updated, and can be used with MilkShape by exporting your model as an OBJ... http://www.uvmapper.com/tutorials.html So assuming we can also get access to Maya (hmmm!!), can anyone here write .cmp, .3db and .sur importers and exporters for Maya??

If you're a student you can get better deals on Maya. Other people use other methods lol. In regard to importers and exporters... its easiest just to do your work in maya (modeling, uv mapping, texturing) then export it all as an OBJ (which preserves your texture information). You can then import it to milkshape to prep it for FL.

Yeah Forsaken, I just stumbled on that student bundle deal for Autodesk software. It's an INSANE discount (about $300 price on the bundle), which includes full versions of Maya, 3DS Max, Softimage, and like 5 other suites. That's thousands off the regular price. Dunno if foreign schools are included in this though.
Oh, on a related note; you get similarly crazy deals on Visual Studio and Windows 7 premie home ($39.99 -till Jan 1st). Check here for the links: http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/default.aspx#discounts
