This program is quite similiar to what I had in my head as a thought, as I do not have programming experience at all apart from web design.

But not quite like how you have it displayed although I'm sure on a programming side its just how you have coded the GUI.

I'm sure I would have ideas that may benefit the program though

As I posted on Reactor Forge about this, I don't use c#. If I had access to the source I might be able to help. I've tested the program but have as of yet tested the output from it. I am capable of compiling c# programs so I would like to see where you are headed with this since you have said it will be open source....

I would make one suggestion, make an editor for the systems that is either 2d or 3d, it will help with the popularity of your program.

for the system editor: why not make it 2 and a half d? so you got 3 views one from the top, one from the right and another one. This is enough to position a base corectly(if they are zoomable)

To position a base yes, in fact 2D would suffice, but what if you want to add stuff to the base, i'm thinking space domes or habitats? For that you need 3D or at least to be able to work on all three axis.. I still use FLE for bolting on addons to bases as you work in all axis so it's not enough for it to be in 2D methinks
