I'm glad to announce that the server move has been completed successfully without any major problems.

The archive has also been restored at
http://www.the-starport.net/archive

Furthermore, the new Forge site is up and running, with 2 mods already using the Starport's SVN server. (you cannot see them because they are non-public projects).
If you need any of the files hosted on the old Forge site, we have a backup!

In other news, the search function has been fixed and is now fully usable again, also searching the forums by default.

We also survived our first DOS attacks which happened at Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The server should now be pretty safe against simple DOS attacks.

Finally, while I dont want to beg for money, servers are not free. If you like what we are doing and want to help keeping The-Starport online, please think about donating to combat server costs.
I have added a paypal link on the left navigation menu.

greets,
w0dk4

Initial setup costs have been 150€ now with a monthly fee of 50€, so every € helps

It can be something temporary due to the server move.

As for the price, yes, this is a dedicated server. $10/month shared hosting would never be able to withstand even a light DoS and wouldn't provide the speed we want to offer to the users.

That's why donations are welcome, too

Woddimouse, can you sent me your bank account datas via PM? I really deny Paypal. (Plus I deny online banking in general, it will never be secure as your walk to your local bank office)

Well, 1. I heard from a case where PP actually WAS unsecure and got hacked (kind of), 2. Just a friend told me a few days ago that his PP account got closed due to "gambling", meaning selling browsergame ressources for real cash. Infact, it was both allowed and supported by the BG administrators, there were strict rules for such cases. He even sent PP the links to the forums announcements of the admins, but didn't change anything.

I've used it for 6 years now, without a single issue.

It is better to be at the safer side.

Hey,
Any chance we can have the old FLHook Plugin SDK back?

Thanks,
Alex.

Huhu,
I am just considering to put up the patch page again. Any chance that T SP would give me ressouces for it? (webspace, FTP)

It is a project which helps the whole FL community. I can take the domain cost by myself.

Hm, a other thing which came up to my mind; what about the old german fansite www.station-network.de, could you imagine to give out ressources for it as well? For this one we might even pay (just a spontan idea of me, I haven't talked with Capt. Proton about this one) (it would be fair to pay IMHO, ofc I don't know, but guess you might be able to make us a better offer then some server hosters)
(WIr könnten ggf. auch ein paar freiwillige Verwalter (Administratoren) gebrauchen, da es eine Art Spaltung der Community gab, wodurch wir wohl die meisten Verwalter verloren haben)

Sure. If either of the above points do happen, just give me a call.
Also, I would be willing to host station-network.de for free if there are no adverts on that site, instead just a simple donation button like here.

Shouldn't be any problem at all.
A donate button is just a too fair requirement, hehe.
So can you setup, let's say, at least 2 FTP accounts? one for freelancerpatch.com (have to re-rent this domain) and for STN.
I haven't talked much to Cap. about this till yet, but we will meet in ICQ tomorrow. But I am sure he is with this plan.
Could you imagine to become one of the STN's tech-admins? As I have said, many people from our community left us as their were some problems with the domain, and this includes half of the admin team.
Also, I had the idea that T SP and STN shouldn't be rivals, but might should declare each other somehow as "sister projects". Kinda. I think with cooperation much more can be reached. Plus it won't harm to promote each other.
Once you have set up the FTP I should be able to upload the freelancerpatch-html files in an instant, they need to be reworked for better quality, but they "do the job" nonetheless.
